A LITTLE ABOUT ME
ARTIST STATEMENT
My name is Jorge Macias and I have been practicing graphic design for three years and counting. I started my career as a designer in my sophomore year of highschool thanks to Pima County JTED at Flowing Wells High School. Since then, I have evolved as a designer making logo, shirt, poster, website, and photo designs for clients.
Many people say it’s hard to pursue a career you truly love. I was also a firm believer of this mindset until I started to pursue a career in design. Choosing to join a graphic design class in highschool has been one of my best decisions ever. Being exposed to design in my sophomore year, I have seen myself develop as a student, as an artist, and, most importantly of all, as a person. Yes, at Pima JTED I learned how to use software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign, but I also learned to be a responsible and innovative worker. Most of the time, I had to work on projects that pushed my creativity. Thinking outside the box was the only option. This paired with having to meet deadlines made me a strong piece for the workforce.
Overall, as an artist, I try to combine my passion and my workmanship. But I know there has to be a balance. It is important to listen to everything the client has to say. I have learned that as an artist you won’t always get your way. Although this could be frustrating, I have learned to enjoy the challenge. While I can make a logo in my style with the things I want to include, the client can be very much against that. As a person, you learn to compromise, and it ends up helping in other situations too.
I will always put my greatest effort into completing my tasks at work. Thankfully, I have a very fulfilling career in which I can display my passion for art to the world.
